Calligraphy Guidelines

Address Guidelines

-All abbreviations should be avoided. For example, "Post Office Box," "Apartment," and "Boulevard" should be written out. Spell out all street names, state names, and other abbreviations.

-The names of two unmarried persons living together should not be coupled by the word "and."

-Numerals are only used for house numbers and ZIP codes.

-If children are to be included in the invitation, do not write "and Family." Their names should be written on the inner envelope beneath their parent's names.

Proper Forms of Address

-Mr., Ms, Mrs., Dr., Jr., and military titles may be abbreviated.

-Educational and law degrees are not usually used in a social address.

-"and Family/Guest" should be avoided.

-If the guest's name is known, his name may be listed on the invitation or a separate invitation may be sent.

-"Jr." is preceded by a comma, "junior" and roman numerals are not.

-When using first names, the woman's name is first.

-When using titles, the titled individual is listed first.
